Three things people underestimate
The computer. Scanning software is demanding on GPU and RAM, and a laptop that struggles will make a capable scanner feel slow and unreliable. Check the requirements against the machine you already own before you budget for the scanner.
The cleanup. Scanning a part takes minutes; turning the result into a clean, watertight, editable model takes longer and is a skill. Budget learning time, not just money.
The export format. If you intend to modify the part in CAD rather than just print a copy, you need a workflow that gets you to solid geometry — STEP or IGES — not just a mesh. Confirm this before purchase; it is the difference between a scanner that fits your process and one that does not.
